PEC Zwolle loses, no promotion yet

The numbers one and two of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, PEC Zwolle and Heracles Almelo, both lost by large numbers tonight. PEC lost 4-2 at FC Eindhoven and Heracles lost 5-3 in Doetinchem at De Graafschap.

PEC could have been promoted, but would have had to win and see Almere City lose to Jong AZ. Neither happened.

Zwolle still got ahead within three minutes in Eindhoven through a goal by German striker Lennart Thy, but in the eleventh minute it was already level through Canadian Charles-Andreas Brym.

Moments later, Eindhoven even got ahead through Collin Seedorf, a second cousin of. He tapped in from close range: 2-1.

Even before halftime it became 2-2 through a header by Thy from a Haris Medunjanin cross. In the second half, it was Eindhoven that took the lead again through Brym. He showed his speed with a rush over 60 meters and finished one-on-one with Jasper Schendelaar coolly: 3-2.

The Zwolle defense was fooled again moments later, this time by Naoufal Bannis. The Feyenoord mercenary was also sent deep and calmly kept his eyes on Schendelaar: 4-2.

Heracles fell behind to De Graafschap as early as the fourth minute, after a header by Devin Haen. He was completely free in the Heracles’ five-meter area. Four minutes later it was tied again, Marco Rente headed a corner hard in at the first post: 1-1.

The Doetinchem crowd was spoiled with another goal after exactly fifteen minutes, and what a goal it was. After a low cross was half cleared by Rente, Basar Önal shot the ball brilliantly from the turn: 2-1.

The 2-2 inside the half hour was the third headed goal of the match, Lucas Schoofs headed in via the ground.

In the second half, it was again the home team that took the lead. Camiel Neghli shot beautifully from outside the penalty area, out of reach of goalkeeper Michael Brouwer: 3-2. With another header from a corner, Sven Sonnenberg made it 3-3 on behalf of Heracles ten minutes before time.

Moments later Jeffrey Fortes headed another ball in, and again from a corner. Brewer did not look good: 4-3. In injury time, Charlison Benson determined the final score: 5-3 for De Graafschap from the penalty spot, not by head. A total of five headed goals were scored, three of them from a corner.
