While many users believe that artificial intelligence may take away their jobs, the Nobel Prize in Economics, Christopher Pissaridesconsiders that systems such as ChatGPT can optimize work and enable shorter working days.
The labor specialist is “very optimistic” about AI and believes that “we could increase our productivity” with it.
Less work per week
In an interview with BloombergPissarides clearly stated that he “believes that artificial intelligence can allow people to work only 4 days a week”.
This is because the tool can produce text, tables, programming code and more, simply and quickly.
Mind you, he knows that this change “will take a long time to have a real impact and it will be during that time that people will adjust.”
The Nobelist believes that such adjustment will consist of acquiring more and better skills according to the workspaces that AI needs.
Artificial intelligence in the spotlight
It is not superfluous to recall all the scandal that has raised ChatGPT in the last few days.
The clearest case is that of the open letter signed by more than a thousand technology specialists such as Elon Musk or Steve Wozniak asking for a pause to the development of the artificial intelligence equal to or more powerful than the GPT-4 version of the platform. The goal? To be able to regulate this industry to make it the least cutthroat and most beneficial to society.
However, for professionals like Bill Gates, this time is not enough to reach global guidelines and solve the problems added by the technology.
