Almere City and FC Emmen battle for coveted spot in premier league

FC Emmen – Road to the final
FC Emmen finished sixteenth in the premier league and thus were allowed to enter the semi-finals of the playoffs. The opponent was NAC Breda. In Breda they won 2-1 and in Emmen it was 2-0 for the team of coach Dick Lukkien, who will start working for relegated FC Groningen after this season.
Almere City – Road to the final
As number three of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, Almere City had to face FC Eindhoven in the first round of the playoffs. After a 1-0 defeat in Eindhoven, a few days later in Almere it already seemed to be the end of the story.
After a late goal by Eindhoven, the Brabanders seemed to make it to the next round, but then Anthony Limbombe scored for Almere. In the extension that followed, Rajiv van La Parra fired in the decisive goal.
In the semifinals, VVV-Venlo was the opponent. After two 1-1 results and an extension in the second game, penalty kicks had to bring the decision. VVV missed four so Almere City will now face FC Emmen.
