PSV’s soccer players have reached the final of the cup tournament. Coach Rick de Rooij’s team defeated ADO 4-1 in The Hague.

In the league, ADO and PSV are hardly inferior to each other. They met once this season and drew 1-1. Both clubs have also collected the same number of points so far. With 26 points, the club from The Hague is fourth, due to a better goal difference, and PSV fifth.

In the cup duel, the proportions were different. PSV dominated the match and did not let the home-playing ADO, led by Sjaak Polak, get into the game.

Quick lead PSV

After only two minutes it was a hit for the Eindhoven team. Laura Strik got the ball on a silver platter and headed in. Ten minutes later, the 26-year-old Strik also had the 2-0 up for grabs, but couldn’t control the ball and shot wide.

Zera Hulswit did get the ball under control in the 27th minute. A far out kick by goalkeeper Danielle de Jong was somewhat unfortunate to be headed through by ADO player Danielle Noordermeer. Hulswit took advantage, stayed calm and shot.

Lobke Loonen after a missed opportunity

ADO goalkeeper Barbara Lorsheyd had a narrow escape just before halftime when a Chimera Ripa effort hit the post. At the other end, De Jong also needed some help to keep her goal clean. Both Lobke Loonen and Lysanne van der Wal saw their efforts cleared on the line by a PSV player.

After halftime, the home team tried to force PSV back into their own half. That resulted in several chances, but ADO’s finishing left much to be desired. A quarter of an hour before time, the tired ADO scored the 3-0 through Inessa Kaagman, who slid the ball past Lorsheyd.

Hague goal after all

ADO did come back in the closing stages. From a corner kick Gina Viehoff headed the ball past De Jong, but PSV’s victory was no longer in danger in the last six minutes. Fleur Stoit made it 4-1 in injury time.

The second cup finalist will be known on Sunday, when Jong PSV and FC Twente face each other in Eindhoven.
