The Super Mario Bros. movie. has been available in theaters for almost a week now, and it’s time to take stock of its first five days on the air. Variety reveals some data on the Illumination and Nintendo film, and we can say that they are mind-blowing to say the least.

Over the long Easter weekend Super Mario Bros. The Movie routed the competition with its $204.6 million debut in the U.S. and $377 million globally (nearly 7 million in box office in Italy alone as of April 9 with nearly one million admissions, according to Cinetel).

It is the film with the best worldwide debut of 2023, behind Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which stands at $117.1 million in box office. Super Mario Bros. The Movie is also the second animated film with the best debut ever, behind only Disney’s Frozen 2 which debuted with $228.2 million. Finally, the film is the Illumination film with the best debut ever, as well as the film of a video game with the best debut ever.

Super Mario Bros. Film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and stars Chris Pratt as our favorite plumber, namely Super Mario. The film’s cast also includes Charlie Day (Pacific Rim) as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) as Princess Peach, Jack Black (School of Rock) as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key (Toy Story 4) as Toad, and Seth Rogan (Pineapple Express) as Donkey Kong.
