Barcelona can smell championship after Real Madrid slip in La Liga
FC Barcelona can chill the champagne. Real Madrid went down at home Saturday against Villarreal (2-3), requiring a miracle to happen to make things exciting in La Liga.
Still, Real opened the scoring, as Marco Asensio’s cross sailed into the net through two defenders. After that, much happened in front of Courtois’ nose without really testing the goalkeeper.
The Chukwueze show
Samuel Chukwueze felling finally did find the right route and left the Belgian hopeless. Vinícius Júnior punished a misunderstanding just after halftime, but Villarreal kept coming. Aïssa Mandi’s header did not count (offside), José Luis Morales’ 2-2 after VAR interference did.
Chukwueze had the most on his hip and curled the 2-3 beautifully into the cross. Real appeared to get a penalty after a handball from a slipping Villarreal player, then the video referee intervened again and the referee’s decision was reversed.
