A dozen killer whales unexpectedly attack two huge gray whales

These images recorded on last Thursday, March 30 in the bay of Monterey (California, USA) show how a group of killer whales attack two adult gray whales.never seen before in the more than 30 years of documenting encounters for the `California Orca Project’.

Researchers from ‘Monterey Bay Whale Watch’. they said: “Normally killer whales hunt gray whale calves. as they head to their northern feeding grounds with their mothers. However these were not calves. We have never seen anything like it.”.

Bigg’s killer whales, formerly known as West Coast transient killer whales, are a subtype described by researcher Michael Bigg. They feed exclusively on marine mammals. and usually travel in smaller groups than the so-called resident killer whales.
