The next Women’s European Football Championship will take place in Switzerland in 2025. The board of the European Football Association UEFA preferred Switzerland to three other candidates: France, Poland and a joint “bid” by Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The intended playing cities are Geneva, Zurich, Bern, Basel, Thun, Lucerne, Sion and St. Gallen.

Last year the European Championship was held in England. The English soccer players then won the European title under the leadership of national coach Sarina Wiegman at Wembley. Four years earlier, Wiegman had also won the European Championship at home with the Netherlands. As defending champions in England, the ‘Lionesses’ got stuck in the quarter-finals.

Netherlands 2027 World Cup candidate

Next summer is the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The Dutch soccer players have qualified for it and will play in the group against Portugal, Vietnam and the United States.

Together with Germany and Belgium, the Netherlands has applied to host the 2027 World Cup.
