Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, former Apple design and engineering team, this week raised $100 million as seed funding for their startup Humane.
This company, founded in 2018, have a somewhat complex future goal, but with a lot of potential: to be an integrated platform of devices and services in the cloud for the artificial intelligence.
Humane in the future
The Series C funding round includes money from Microsoft, OpenAI, Volvo, and LG, raising the money injected into Humane at $230 million.
But what do they plan to do with this money? A single platform based on artificial intelligence.
“Our first device will enable people to take AI everywhere. It’s an exciting time and we’ve been focused on how to build the platform and device that can take full advantage of the true power and potential of this technology,” Chaudhri said in a statement.
This first device, according to leaked documents during 2022, is described as a wearable device equipped with a camera that “captures moments you didn’t think to capture or moments you want to remember.”
“You can mark them and those moments will be processed on the server so you can remember them in different styles, either as images or videos,” it refers. The software will be able to edit the clips in film, documentary or lifestyle styles.
Other benefits of this as-yet-unnamed device include the live streaming tool, elderly monitoring and memory retrieval.
Future projection
Currently, Humane Is working on patents and in-house job listings.
A report from 9to5Google notes that a patent describes a portable device with a laser projection system instead of a traditional display and is capable of projecting an interactive display anywhere.
As part of the funding announcement, Humane says it is partnering with Microsoft to leverage its cloud infrastructure and will integrate OpenAI technology into its device. It also mentions collaboration with LG and Volvo to explore how the technology could be used in Humane in home technology and automotive products in the future.
