Piet de Zoete (79) deceased, from the days when ADO still supplied three internationals

Former soccer international Piet de Zoete (79) has died. When he took the field on behalf of the Dutch national team in September 1966 together with Harry Heijnen and Kees Aarts, it was the first and for the time being the only time that three players from ADO Den Haag served the national team at the same time.
De Zoete played more than four hundred official duels for ADO. He was also a former coach, former board member and, since 2015, an honorary member of The Hague club. Besides soccer, De Zoete had a practice as a physiotherapist.
Subtopper ADO
Trainer Ernst Happel had De Zoete make his debut for ADO in 1962, which grew into a sub-topper in Dutch soccer in that period with the midfielder. In 1975 a knee injury forced him to prematurely end his career as a professional. De Zoete was part of the ADO that won the cup in 1968 at the expense of Ajax.
De Zoete made three appearances for the Dutch national team.
De Zoete’s health deteriorated over the last year, although he managed to continue attending ADO’s home games until a month ago.
