Fortuna Sittard drags out a point against NEC deep in injury time

Fortuna Sittard drew 1-1 at home against NEC at the last minute. Only well into extra time Paul Gladon equalized from the spot after Landry Dimata (also from eleven meters) had opened the score in the 65th minute.

Before halftime, Fortuna’s superiority produced few major chances. Gladon was closest to a goal, but hit the post. At the other end, Magnus Mattsson provided the only threat, but goalkeeper Ivor Pandur and Ivo Pinto intervened.

At NEC, Mattijs Branderhorst was under the crossbar. Jasper Cillessen quickly ousted him from the starting line-up this season, but wished him a worthy farewell at NEC. He seemed to get that, as he kept the zero until Gladon struck in extremis anyway.

For both teams, the season is now over. NEC finishes in twelfth place and Fortuna one place below.
