PSV still not sure of CL preliminary round – Emmen loses, Volendam and Excelsior safe
Next week’s program
Next Sunday at 2:30 p.m. some more decisions will take place on the last matchday. The most interesting one is the one for spot two, between PSV and Ajax. Both teams will play a very tough away game.
PSV, which is second with a three-point lead but with a slightly less goal difference (-2) than number three Ajax, will visit AZ, which is still lurching toward Ajax’s third spot. Ajax must go to Enschede, where it meets number five FC Twente.
The other decision still falls for spot eight, the last European ticket. There it is between Heerenveen, RKC Waalwijk and Go Ahead Eagles. Heerenveen meets Go Ahead in Friesland in a direct duel. RKC is also in Friesland, visiting already relegated SC Cambuur.

PSV plays a pretty lousy game at home against Heerenveen and puts themselves in huge trouble, but as long as Ajax does not win at home against FC Utrecht, the Eindhoven natives still conquer the second spot and the ticket for the CL preliminary round.
In the Johan Cruijff Arena, Ajax gets quite a few chances, such as Kudus’ just from close range, but goalkeeper Barkas is there for a reason.

Cambuur will already be playing in the first division next year, what remains is to give everything in the last two games. Against this season’s strong Sparta, the net quickly got a great opportunity, a penalty, but Uldrikis missed it.
Moments later, Tol did put the Frisians ahead 1-0. A nice header over the out come goalkeeper.

Four young, talented players are vying for the top scorer title in the remaining two duels in the premier league. For Anastasios Douvikas (23), Xavi Simons (20), Sydney van Hooijdonk (23) and Santiago Giménez (22), that prize could be the starting shot of a great international career.
Could, yes. After all, do we remember Afonso Alves? And Alfred Finnbogason? And where on the planet is Björn Vleminckx, anyway?

Penultimate round of play: what’s at stake?
Feyenoord are already national champions. FC Groningen and SC Cambuur are relegated. Yet for many clubs there is still much to play for in the final stages of the premier league.
PSV and Ajax battle for the ticket in the preliminary round of the Champions League. AZ are chasing Ajax for the Europa League playoffs instead of the preliminary round of the Conference League. RKC, Heerenveen and Go Ahead Eagles are vying for the last playoff spot for European soccer.
At the bottom is also exciting, where FC Emmen is trying to get rid of that sixteenth spot. Volendam and Excelsior are anxiously looking down.
