Feyenoord condemns Emmen to nacompetition and keeps sight of points record

A week after clinching their 16th national title, Feyenoord won 3-1 at FC Emmen. As a result, the Rotterdammers remain in sight of a points record for the club in the premier league.

Emmen were condemned to play nacompetition as rival Excelsior won 3-0 against Fortuna Sittard.

If Feyenoord wins at home against Vitesse on the last matchday, the Rotterdammers will reach 85 points. Never before has the club picked up so many points in a championship year.

Converted to the three-point system, Feyenoord collected a total of 83 points in 1969 and 1971. In 1973 Feyenoord also finished on 85 points, but then Ajax became champions.

Feyenoord, who came onto the pitch past a guard of honor of Emmen players, started strongly and did not seem tired after last week’s many celebrations. Because Marcus Pedersen was injured and Lutsharel Geertruida therefore had to take over his spot at right back, Mats Wieffer started in the center of defense.

Although the Tukker also played in that position at Excelsior on occasion, he did not look good at the first chance Emmen got. After 15 minutes of play, Keziah Veendorp sent striker Richairo Zivkovic away and Emmen’s number nine had no trouble running past Wieffer and outsmarting goalkeeper Justin Bijlow.

Feyenoord had dominated Emmen up to that point and even after the 1-0, despite some sloppiness here and there, the national champion continued to dominate.

Although the pressure was clearly off for the Rotterdammers, they looked emphatically for the 1-1. That fell after half an hour of play when Oussama Idrissi directed the ball toward the cross with a brilliant blast.

Emmen crawled out of its shell a bit after that. Via dead ball moments and crosses by Feyenoord loanee Mark Diemers, the home team regularly became dangerous. Just before halftime, Ole Romeny tapped a Diemers cross just wide.

After halftime, the game became more balanced. It was only in the 63rd minute that substitute Javairo Dilrosun created the first danger after the break. His flaming shot was just tapped over by goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart.

Feyenoord continued to dominate the game, but did not create any major chances. Only Santiago Giménez came close at first. Emmen were unable to create any more danger and ten minutes before time Danilo headed the 1-2.

A few minutes later the Brazilian determined the final score at 1-3 after a fine attack. This brought his total to ten goals. After the final whistle, there was some consternation on the field when Neraysho Kasanwirjo suddenly went to the ground.
