The remainder of the suspended premier league match FC Groningen-Ajax (0-0) will be played next Tuesday, May 16, at 3 p.m. without an audience. This was decided by the professional soccer league board of the KNVB in consultation with the local authorities in Groningen.

Under the KNVB’s tightened rules, the match was permanently stopped Sunday at a score of 0-0 in the ninth minute after smoke bombs were thrown onto the pitch twice from the stands.

According to those rules, when a match is suspended, it is up to the Professional Football League Committee to determine what should happen with the remainder of the match. For a fair course of the competition the starting point is to play the game out and that is also what was decided for this game.

The local authorities in Groningen subsequently determined that the match must be played without an audience. The KNVB also reported that the prosecutor is investigating the various incidents at FC Groningen Ajax.
