Volendam almost gives away wide lead, but wins over Excelsior

FC Volendam recorded a 3-2 win at home over Excelsior, which ends this season with only one away win: 0-2 at SC Cambuur in the first round of play.

Volendam was initially supreme and led 3-0 at halftime. Daryl Van Mieghem scored with a slider after ten minutes, goalkeeper Stijn Van Gassel (of great value for Excelsior this season) hit the ball into his own goal just under fifteen minutes later, and Francesco Antonucci found the cross after more than 25 minutes.

Excelsior was brighter after halftime, scoring its first away goal since Oct. 29 about 10 minutes nar rest; as then, Lazaros Lamprou scored. Nikolas Agrafiotis made it 2-3 in the 78th minute. He also seemed to make the 3-3 before the end, but he ran in too soon after Reda Kharchouch’s stopped penalty.

FC Volendam, who finished fourteenth, and Excelsior (15) were already sure of maintenance in the premier league before this match.
