Former PSV player Locadia selected for national team Curaçao
Jurgen Locadia (29) has been included in Curaçao’s final selection. Starting in early June, the er qualifying matches for the Gold Cup are scheduled, with the World Cup as the big goal.
The former striker of PSV, where he became national champion twice, currently plays in China with Guangzhou Mighty Lions. The Curaçao Football Federation and national coach Remko Bicentini, with Locadia and others, want to take a new path and reach the 2026 World Cup.
Called up to Orange
Locadia – born in Emmen to a Curaçao family – went through all the youth teams of Oranje. National team coaches Louis van Gaal and Danny Blind also knocked on the door in 2014 and 2015. But it never came to a debut in the Dutch national team.
In 2018, Locadia signed a contract with Brighton & Hove Albion, but he did not become an undisputed base player. So after numerous clubs, the striker now plays in China.
Gold Cup qualification
Curaçao will play St. Kitts & Nevis next month in the first round of the Gold Cup qualifying tournament in Fort Lauderdale, USA. A win will follow the game with the winner of the meeting between French Guiana and St. Maarten.
If Curaçao qualifies for the Gold Cup it will enter a pool with Nicaragua, Jamaica and the United States.
