Heitinga disappointed: ‘Was insufficient, we can do better’
After the 3-0 defeat against PSV, Ajax is in third place, with four rounds of play to go in the premier league threatening a rare bad season. The last season in which the club finished outside the top-2 in the premier league was in 2008/2009, then finishing third behind champion AZ and runner-up FC Twente.
“It’s actually a crappy year,” Ajax coach John Heitinga acknowledged. “In recent years we have been spoiled at Ajax. Now we have to start fighting. The good thing is that we have another game next week. In am disappointed in the fact that we can do better. We have to show that next week.”
‘Back straight, chance for nice prize next week’
With that, Heitinga was referring to the April 30 KNVB Cup final against PSV at De Kuip. “With this team we can win from PSV,” Steven Berghuis stated. “Back straight and next week a chance for a nice prize.”

“We were not overpowered,” Heitinga added. “They were more effective. The first chance was a goal right away. We were not good enough on the ball in the first half, too impatient and sloppy.”
Tadic: ‘All the goals were presents’
Dusan Tadic thought Ajax made far too many mistakes. “All three goals were presents for PSV. If you give them away so easily, you don’t win matches,” the Amsterdammers’ captain said at the press conference.
The defeat hit Tadic hard. “It’s very painful to lose, especially to PSV. We have only won one top game this season, in the cup against Feyenoord. That’s very frustrating. It’s a difficult season. Everyone knows we need better players, but that’s no excuse. We have to do better.”
Tadic said he sympathizes with interim coach John Heitinga. “I feel bad for him. He does everything for Ajax. I feel responsible for this. Everyone has to take responsibility now, whether you are 17 or 35.”
