Five hits in 21 minutes: Newcastle humiliates Tottenham

NOS Football

In the battle for a ticket to the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur took a huge beating from Newcastle United: 6-1. After 21 minutes it was already 5-0 for ‘the Magpies’.

As a result, Newcastle are well on their way to qualifying for the Champions League for the first time since 2003. The top four clubs in England go directly into the Million Dollar League.

The investment from Saudi Arabia thus seems to be having an early effect. In 2021, Newcastle was acquired by a Saudi investment company for 300 million pounds (over 335 million euros).

Tottenham have slipped to fifth place following the departure of manager Antonio Conte under interim coach Cristian Stellini. In the remaining six duels, the team will have to work hard to keep Aston Villa, Liverpool and Brighton below them.

Standings in the Premier League

Jacob Murphy (rebound and peg from distance) and Alexander Isak (cool finisher after first a beautiful pass and later after a slash) each scored two goals. Joelinton, who rounded goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, provided the 2-0 in between.

Harry Kane scored for Tottenham shortly after halftime, but Callum Wilson soon restored the margin of five.

Scorpion goal for West Ham

West Ham United gained confidence ahead of the Conference League semifinal against AZ. The London-based team won 0-4 on a visit to Bournemouth.

The last goal was the most beautiful. Pablo Fornals scored with a “scorpion kick”: charging forward with the heel, like Rafael van der Vaart once did against Feyenoord in the Klassieker.

Michail Antonio, Lucas Paqueta and Declan Rice scored the other goals for West Ham, which plays four more league matches before facing AZ on May 11 and 18.
