Russian presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskovcriticized on Sunday the “hysterical” reaction of the United States and its allies to the recently announced agreement for the construction of silos for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, a country allied with Russia.

“Right now it is a very important topic. There is a little measured reaction from the West to President (Vladimir) Putin’s announcements, (but) they are not prone to remember the issue of the nuclear weapons American nuclear weapons that are here, in Europe, around our country,” Peskov said in statements to the public television channel Rossiya1, as reported by the Interfax news agency.

“They are inclined to a hysterical reaction to our plans to build storage silos for tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus,” he has argued.

Peskov has further pointed out that the shipment of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus does not imply any adjustments to the Russian Nuclear Deterrence Strategy and has explained that the shipment of these weapons is a response to the rapprochement of the NATO to the Russian borders.
