Chelsea and Liverpool both failed to win the past two Premier League games and neither club grabbed the three points against each other either. The scoreboard in London remained at 0-0.

At Chelsea, which occupies 11th place in the league table, Bruno Saltor was in charge of the team for the first time. He temporarily took over the duties of Graham Potter, who was sacked last Sunday.

Potter had failed to get the Londoners going and the coach received a lot of criticism, even several death threats. Things also went anything but smoothly under Saltor on Tuesday night.

Van Dijk sick

Missing from opponent Liverpool was Virgil van Dijk. The captain of the Dutch national team had been left sick. Cody Gakpo started the game at Stamford Bridge on the bench and was brought in by Jürgen Klopp in the 79th minute.

Chelsea made the most claim to victory. Twice the ball even ended up in the net behind Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, but both times the goal was disallowed by VAR.

The first disallowed goal was scored by Reece James. However, the video referee intervened because earlier in the attack Enzo Fernández had been offside. Kai Havertz also found the net, but he used his arm to do so, VAR ruled.

Like Chelsea, Liverpool does not gain much from the draw. Klopp’s team is eighth and thus far from the Champions League tickets, which are for numbers one to four.

Standings in the Premier League

Leeds United recorded an important win in the fight against relegation. The team with defender Pascal Struijk won 2-1 against Nottingham Forest and climbed to the thirteenth position in the league table. Former Feyenoord player Luis Sinisterra scored the winning goal.

Brighton & Hove Albion are firmly in sixth place in the Premier League with 46 points as a result of the 2-0 win at Bournemouth. Evan Ferguson and Julio Enciso scored the goals. Joël Veltman played the entire match at Brighton, Jan Paul van Hecke remained on the bench.

Aston Villa won 2-1 at Leicester City, which is penultimate. Bertrand Traoré, former player of Vitesse and Ajax, scored the winning goal. Villa is seventh with 44 points
