NYPD prepares for possible protests ahead of Trump appearance: ‘We are ready to respond’
The New York Police Department (NYPD) said Sunday that its officers are “ready to respond” to planned protests ahead of former President Donald Trump’s arraignment following his indictment as part of an investigation into the alleged payment of a bribe to porn actress Stephanie Clifford, known as Stormy Daniels.
An NYPD spokesman has indicated that police officers are “on alert” and will remain “ready to respond as needed.”despite remarking that “there are no current credible threats to the city,” as reported by the newspaper The Hill.
“The NYPD ensures that thousands of events, including First Amendment activities, are conducted safely in New York City each year,” he has said, before adding that he will “make sure that everyone can peacefully exercise their rights“.
Some Republicans, such as Rep. MArjorie Taylor Greene, have already announced that they will participate in “a peaceful protest,” while a few days ago deployed barricades in front of the Manhattan courthouse.
The former president, who was indicted Friday, denounced “political persecution and electoral interference”: “This has never been done before in the history of our nation,” he said.
“From the moment I walked down the escalator at Trump Tower, and even before I was sworn in as your president of the United States, Democrats on the radical left, the enemy of the working men and women of this country, have been involved in a witch hunt to destroy the ‘Make America Great Again’ movement,” Trump asserted.
His lawyers pointed out, as picked up by the network. NBCwhich will appeal the indictmentas they argue that Trump “is a victim of the U.S. system’s corrupt and distorted version of justice and history”.
