The investigation in the assault case involving professional footballer Quincy Promes will be reopened. This means that no verdict will be given next Friday. However, an interim verdict will follow, reports the Amsterdam court.

The reason for reopening the investigation is not yet clear. The court says an explanation will follow on Friday.

Earlier this month, two years in prison were demanded against Promes. According to the prosecution, the 50-time international of Oranje is guilty of aggravated assault on his cousin, at a family party in 2020. The victim was stabbed in his knee at the end of the party in Abcoude. The 31-year-old Promes, who plays soccer in Russia, denies being the perpetrator.
