Sonic 4: The film is reportedly already in the works with a planned release in 2027

Per a new report from the reliable website Variety, Paramount Pictures has reportedly already given the green light to Sonic 4: The Movie, with release scheduled for spring 2027.

The news comes just hours (or days, it depends) before the third installment, Sonic 3: The Movie, is scheduled to begin showing in theaters worldwide. The film will be released this Friday in the United States, where it is expected to have a very good debut weekend, while it will arrive on January 1, 2025 in Italian theaters. To have seen the film at the moment is only the critics, who liked it remarkably considering the score of 87 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Variety has not revealed any further details about Sonic 4: The Movie at the moment, not even about the plot. However, we can certainly expect a return of director Jeff Fowler, who directed the other three chapters, as well as Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Jim Carrey as Dr. Eggman, as well as James Marsden, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Keanu Reeves, who plays Shadow in Sonic 3: The Movie.

The second live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film was a hit, reaching $400 million in box office in less than three months. It also quickly became the fourth most successful film based on a video game ever, while being the highest-grossing film in the United States. Combined, the first two Sonic the Hedgehog films grossed more than $720 million.
