FC Twente wins Eredivisie Cup after rain of goals in final against Ajax

FC Twente seized the Eredivisie Cup, the dessert of the women’s soccer season, for the third time after a spectacular final. Twente won the final at De Toekomst 4-3 over Ajax.

Fenna Kalma, who signed a contract with top German club VfL Wolfsburg last week, put Twente ahead 2-0 after 15 minutes of play. Halfway through, Ajax had already equalized after an own goal by Marit Auée and a nick by Rosa van Gool.

The second half was less than two minutes in when Ajax even took the lead through a well-judged shot by Sherida Spitse. Ten minutes later Suzanne Giesen equalized to decide the match after just under seventy minutes.

Eredivisie, KNVB cup, Eredivisie Cup

The Eredivisie Cup is the third competition in national women’s soccer after the premier league and the KNVB Cup. Twente previously won the tournament in 2020 and 2022.

In the semifinals, national champion Ajax settled with PSV, the number four in the league. Twente, winner of the first period and also cup winner, defeated number three Fortuna Sittard.
