Special mausoleum for soccer legend Pelé: ‘Design made out of love’
For Brazilian soccer legend Pelé to live on forever, a special mausoleum has been built around his golden coffin.
Pelé led Brazil to world titles in 1958, 1962 and 1970 and remains the only soccer player ever to win three World Cups. Last December, he died of colon cancer at the age of 82.
On Monday, the mausoleum was opened to the public in Santos, near São Paolo.
All in soccer spirit
Really everything is in soccer atmosphere. An artificial turf has been laid on the floor, the walls of the room show pictures of fans in a stadium and the ceiling shows blue sky.
And to top it all off, a band of eternal cheers sounds in the background.
The cemetery is built in height. From the ninth floor there is a view of Santos’ stadium, where Pelé played most of his career.
It was his own wish to have his final resting place there.
