Birthday Vitesse treats fans to much-needed win over Cambuur after halftime

Vitesse can almost certainly get ready for another season in the premier league. A 2-0 win over bottom-placed SC Cambuur added lustre to the club’s 131st anniversary.

Under the watchful eye of intended new owner Coley Parry, Vitesse began its mission to add three points in order to distance itself more widely from the dreaded 16th spot, currently occupied by FC Emmen.

American Parry already stepped forward as the new owner with Common Group last September, but the takeover has still not been approved by the KNVB. Meanwhile, he is said to have already made millions of euros available to shape the selection for next season.

After the win over Cambuur, plans to bring newcomers to Arnhem could be made concrete. Before halftime, however, things did not look rosy, as the already relegated Leeuwardeners had the best chances.

After only a few minutes, Michael Breij had the ball to head in on a Remco Balk cross, but via the head of teammate Daniël van Kaam it went wide of Kjell Scherpen’s goal. Shortly before the half-hour mark, Mees Hoedemakers, an NEC player next season, shot just wide.

Vitesse’s only danger in the first half came mainly from Bartosz Bialek. However, the Polish VfL Wolfsburg mercenary, who was preferred to Mohamed Sankoh, did not manage to find the net.

That changed after the break. First Bialek scored from a cross from Million Manhoef and moments later the striker cashed in on a pass from Carlens Arcus. The Haitian defender received his second yellow card a few minutes after a foul on Alex Bangura.

Vitesse therefore had to continue for almost half an hour with ten men, but Cambuur did not bring the tension back. So there was reason to laugh in Arnhem and the supporters enjoyed the pastries handed out in the stands.
