Virginia (U.S.) judge allows 18-year-olds to purchase handguns

A federal judge in the state of Virginia (USA) has ordered this Thursday. the elimination of certain laws that prevent young people from between 18 and 21 years of age to purchase pistols legally.

The decision is expected to be appealed by the U.S. Department of Justice, reports media outlets such as. The Washington Post and The New York Times.

Young Americans between 18 and 21 years of age may legally purchase firearms such as rifles or shotguns, but not handguns.by virtue of a series of regulations that limit their access to these types of weapons, more portable and easier to conceal.

The Virginia judge’s decision argues that these regulations are unconstitutional, and cites a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that expanded the right to carry firearms in public.

Some of the bloodiest shootings. in recent years in the country, such as the school massacre in Uvalde (Texas) or the attack on a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, were perpetrated by young people who were 18 years old at the time of the attacks.

At least eight people have been killed and seven injured, including children, in a shooting at a shopping mall in Texas (USA) on Saturday.
