After 62 wins, impressive run ends for FC Barcelona soccer players

NOS Soccer–
A 1-1 draw on Wednesday night at Sevilla. It didn’t matter much for the standings in the Spanish soccer league, as the FC Barcelona women became champions of Spain for the fourth time in a row at the end of April.
Still, they will be balking in Catalonia, as the draw marks the end of an impressive run. Until Wednesday night, Barça had already won 62 league games in a row. And with impressive goal figures. In those 62 games, the team scored no less than 297 times and only gave up 22 goals.
The last time Barcelona failed to win a league game was on June 1, 2021. Atlético Madrid, with Merel van Dongen on the bench, was too strong 4-3. Lieke Martens was still under contract to Barça at the time, but did not appear in action against Atlético.
Crnogorcevic saves point
Barcelona would have been close to suffering defeat against Sevilla. Cristina Martín-Prieto opened the scoring for the home team in the 53rd minute when she suddenly appeared completely free in front of goalkeeper Esther Sullastres.
It wasn’t until the 80th minute that Barcelona managed to find the net themselves. Switzerland’s Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic shot from close range after a corner for the 1-1. It turned out to be the only Catalan goal despite 24 shots and 84 percent possession.
Not another perfect season
The draw and thus breaking the streak of 62 wins also means that Barcelona is not experiencing a perfect season for the second year in a row. Last year the team became champions by winning all 30 matches, with two duels to go the team now stands at 27 wins and a draw.
Although the impressive run has come to an end, they will not be very mournful in Barcelona. There the focus is mainly on Saturday, June 3, when Wolfsburg awaits at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven in the final of the Champions League.
