NAC Breda has clinched a spot in the playoffs for promotion to the premier league. Visiting Almere City, the Breda players had enough of a point, but took the full prize: 0-2.

For Almere City, the defeat was not a huge problem. Coach Alex Pastoor’s team had already qualified for the playoffs and still holds third place after the game with NAC.

NAC was still battling with FC Eindhoven, MVV, VVV and Telstar for a spot among the first eight. Because the gap with number nine Telstar is now nine points (with two games to go) that battle is now over.

Beautiful goal by Agougil

The eleven of coach Peter Hyballa, who has performed well with NAC since his arrival in the winter, were helped on their way in Almere by Sabir Agougil. The midfielder broke the spell after half an hour with a magnificent shot from well outside the penalty area.

The home team then went in pursuit, but soon suffered a second blow. Icelandic striker Elías Már Ómarsson made it 2-0 after a fine move.

After halftime, Javier Vet received another red card, but Almere did not manage to exploit the numerical advantage. Thus, Breda continues to dream of a return to the premier league, from which NAC relegated in 2019.

The playoffs begin on May 22, with the first round. Who NAC plays against then depends on where the club ends the season in the league table.
