After the KNVB Cup final between Ajax and PSV, vandalism was caused in and near De Kuip. Toilets in the stadium were vandalized, seats were broken off, walls were covered with stickers.
There is damage everywhere in De Kuip, stadium director Lilian de Leeuw tells Rijnmond. “But especially at the sections with Ajax fans and on the Olympia side where supporters of both teams were mixed up, there was a lot of damage.” PSV won the final after extension and penalty kicks.
De Leeuw shows bewilderment. “Although I’m not naive and had been warned beforehand about destruction, it was still a shock when I saw the damage with my own eyes afterwards.”
Not only at De Kuip were things demolished and vandalized, there was also damage at the train station near the stadium, including check-in posts. At least fifty people were arrested around the cup final.
Extent of damage
The extent of the damage is not yet known. Once an initial estimate has been made, a bill will go to the KNVB. The soccer association may forward it to Ajax and PSV.
