Union Berlin forgets to increase pressure on Dortmund and Bayern

Union Berlin failed to capitalize on leader Borussia Dortmund’s draw at VfL Bochum. The Bundesliga number three remained stuck at 0-0 in their home match against number six Bayern Leverkusen on Saturday afternoon.

The first half was worth watching even without goals. The initial phase was for Union, which had chances through former ADO Den Haag attacker Sheraldo Becker and Jordan Siebatcheu.

Leverkusen, with Mitchel Bakker and Jeremie Frimpong in the starting line-up, took control after about twenty minutes and saw Moussa Diaby shoot just over in a promising position.

Leverkusen desperately wanted to win with an eye on a Champions League place and was the most aggressive team after the break. Union gave little away defensively, though Bakker was dangerous with a header that Union goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow just managed to turn away.

Bayern Munich is the number two in the Bundesliga and can retake the lead from Dortmund on Sunday if they win their home match against Hertha BSC (kickoff 3:30 p.m.).
