Stopped FC Groningen-NEC game to be played without an audience on Tuesday

The suspended premier league match FC Groningen – NEC will be played on Tuesday, April 25, at 3 p.m. without supporters. With this the KNVB follows the same line as with last week’s prematurely ended match between NAC and Willem II.

The local authorities have decided not to allow a crowd at the remainder of the game.

FC Groningen-NEC was stopped in the 18th minute Saturday at a 0-0 score after the linesman was hit by a cup of drink thrown from the crowd.

NEC director Wilco van Schaik announced Saturday that he hoped the match would not be played out too soon. So now that is happening.

“It’s our furthest away game. Our players will arrive in Nijmegen at 1:30 tonight. They do need a few days,” van Schaik said. “Then it cannot be that this match has to be made up quickly before Kings Day because of the busy schedule.
