Treacherous Leuchter helps Ajax women to 2-1 victory over Fortuna Sittard

NOS Soccer–
Ajax took over the lead in the women’s premier league, at least for a day, with a 2-1 win over Fortuna Sittard. Romée Leuchter scored both Amsterdam goals.
The first chance of the match was for Ajax: Leuchter lashed out, but goalkeeper Diede Lemey went for it in time. In the first half, both teams created chances, but the zero was not polished off the scoreboard.
Two penalty shots
Immediately after halftime, Fortuna Sittard was awarded a penalty kick for bringing down Jarne Teulings in the penalty area. From eleven meters it was captain Tessa Wullaert who shot the goal: 1-0.
The home team could not rest on that for long, because a few minutes later Ajax also received a penalty due to hands by Fortuna. Leuchter was accurate: 1-1.
In the 64th minute, Leuchter put her team ahead by running in well on a pass at the far post. Defender Samantha van Diemen just couldn’t reach it, and Leuchter tapped the ball in on the run: 2-1.
Coach Suzanne Bakker’s team is now one point ahead of FC Twente, with one more game played. FC Twente will play at PEC Zwolle on Sunday.
