Watch the summary of FC Emmen – NEC

FC Emmen and NEC shared the points in the premier league. In an unedifying spectacle, both teams failed to score: 0-0.

The team of Rogier Meijer, who this week extended his contract for another year at NEC, had to do without Oussama Tannane. The tastemaker was injured last week against PSV after hitting a free kick.

The draw means FC Emmen is now one point above Excelsior, the number sixteen Eredivisie side. NEC gets little from a point and sees its hopes of the playoffs for European soccer slowly evaporating.

Tannane’s whims were missed by the Nijmegen side, who struggled to find an opening at FC Emmen. Magnus Mattsson, Tannane’s replacement, had the biggest chance, but his effort was cleverly caught by Mickey van der Hart.

Zivkovic dangerous

At the other end, Richairo Zivkovic thought to make it 1-0 for FC Emmen, but after VAR intervention, his goal was rightly disallowed for offside. Not much later, the same Zivkovic served Jeremy Antonisse with a good cross, but the striker just couldn’t hit the ball fully.

Emmen ‘still runs point in on Excelsior’, NEC does ‘sell itself short’

FC Emmen, fighting against relegation, mainly held back after halftime and lurked on the counterpunch. It also got some chances, but goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen was never seriously tested.

In injury time, NEC rookie Lasse Schöne came very close to scoring a goal, but his dropkick ended up on the post.
