Striker Ricardo Pepi of FC Groningen has shown his value for the U.S. soccer team. He scored two goals for the United States in the Nations League match against Grenada. The American soccer players triumphed 7-1 in St. George’s. Pepi opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute and also scored ‘Team USA’s sixth goal shortly after halftime.

Weston McKennie also scored two goals for interim national team coach Anthony Hudson’s team.

Berhalter research

Federal coach Gregg Berhalter was not off the hook. His contract expired after the World Cup in Qatar and he was eager to renew it. The soccer federation was investigating an incident from 31 years ago. At the time, Berhalter kicked his then girlfriend and current wife Rosalind. It was the mother of midfielder Gio Reyna who brought up the 1991 incident out of frustration that Berhalter had criticized her son for his attitude at the World Cup in Qatar.

Berhalter was recently acquitted, but still has not signed a new contract.

Captain Christian Pulisic also played an important role at St. George’s with a goal and two assists.

The Americans need a draw against El Salvador in Orlando on Monday to qualify for the final round of the Nations League of the Concacaf, the federation for countries from North and Central America and the Caribbean.

The 20-year-old Pepi is FC Groningen’s club top scorer in the premier league with nine goals. Groningen is in seventeenth place and fighting against relegation.
