Dutch soccer clubs are doing extremely well on the international transfer market, ‘The Football Investment Report’ reveals. After Ajax, PSV has now entered the top ten of clubs with the most profitable transfer policy.

The data are from the last five years and all amounts are based on information from the website Transfermarkt.com.

PSV shoots up the rankings due to the sale of Cody Gakpo (Liverpool) and Noni Madueke (Chelsea), bringing the total gain to 189 million euros. And that’s good for eighth place. Ajax is second with a plus of 308 million, thanks in part to the sale of Antony and Lisandro Martínez to Manchester United.

Almost the Amsterdammers would have been first, but the sale of Enzo Fernández to Chelsea gave that honor to Benfica. A profit of over 76 million euros was made on Fernández, bringing the total to 356 million.

Besides Benfica and Ajax, Lille, Red Bull Salzburg, Sporting, Olympique Lyon and AS Monaco also outperformed PSV. Porto and Danish club FC Nordsjælland are also in the top 10. FC Nordsjælland, the former club of Ajacied Mohammed Kudus, made 125 million euros in profits on transfers.

The Dutch youth academies also score well, but do not win out over the sums left over by top Portuguese clubs from their own exponents.

One more striking statistic in the comprehensive survey is the smart acquisition policies of Real Sociedad and Villarreal. Both Spanish subtoppers are in the top ten of clubs most likely to see their newcomers increase in transfer value. The question, of course, is whether they will actually earn those estimated sums.
