Spakenburg gets council permission for home game against PSV

NOS Football

SV Spakenburg has received permission from the Bunschoten municipality to play the semi-final of the KNVB Cup against PSV at its own Sportpark De Westmaat.

According to the municipality, the game will be finished at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4. The KNVB has yet to officially set the final playing dates.

Friend and foe

Amateur club Spakenburg surprised friend and foe last week when they won 4-1 at visiting premier league club FC Utrecht. Earlier in the tournament, coach Chris de Graaf’s team already won 3-2 at FC Groningen.

After rival IJsselmeervogels in 1975 and VVSB in 2016, Spakenburg is the third amateur club to reach the semifinals of the cup.

The stadium of SV Spakenburg

Last Saturday, the “Blues,” as Spakenburg’s nickname goes, were paired with PSV in a home match. However, the club had to get permission from the municipality to finish the semi-final at its own sports park. Spakenburg plans to expand the stadium with temporary stands, allowing some 8,000 spectators to attend.

Feyenoord-Ajax

The other semifinal will be played between Feyenoord and Ajax. On probably April 5 or 6, the eternal rivals will battle for the other spot in the final at De Kuip. At that match, by the way, as in recent years in the league, no away crowd is welcome.
