Deadline missed: Russian soccer clubs continue to be banned

NOS Football–
Russian soccer clubs remain banned from playing in international competitions. The clubs involved belatedly appealed a ruling by the international sports tribunal CAS.
The Russian clubs submitted their appeal to the CAS on Feb. 10, while the deadline was already on Jan. 13. As a result, the case will no longer be heard by the sports tribunal.
European soccer federation UEFA and world soccer federation FIFA suspended the clubs after the Russian invasion of Ukraine about a year ago. The clubs then went to CAS, but the sports tribunal rejected their appeal in November.
The sanction applies to Russia’s national team and clubs. The general expectation is that the ban will not be lifted until the Russian invasion ends.
