Another Rashford show at United, where Weghorst does dirty work and misses chances

In a weekend where it was mostly about a potential takeover of the club, Manchester United recorded a comfortable win over Leicester City: 3-0. Wout Weghorst played the entire match at United, got several opportunities, but remained dry in the Premier League.

Like last Thursday at Camp Nou, coach Erik ten Hag put Weghorst in the position of attacking midfielder behind striker Marcus Rashford, unusual for him, partly to do the necessary dirty work. Where on Thursday he had to get in front of Frenkie de Jong and co., he now had to stop Leicester captain James Maddison, among others.

The visitors had several chances in the first half, but David De Gea kept his goal clean and against the odds the home side scored. Rashford broke the spell for the Red Devils. He found the far corner after a good run.

After halftime, United dominated and it was again Rashford who found the net with his 24th goal of the season in all competitions. As a substitute, Jadon Sancho showed his good form and was the end of a delightful attack: 3-0. This was preceded by a good run by Weghorst.

Lisandro Martínez headed onto the crossbar and the lack of more goals was otherwise mainly due to Weghorst’s unfortunate finishing. An overhead kick went high over, a header went wide and on his biggest chance, offered by Sancho, he pounced on goalkeeper Danny Ward.
