Uncover the Secret: Why ‘Forget About It on the Field’ Matters!

Frenkie de Jong Ready to Shine Again for Netherlands

Frenkie de Jong has expressed a great sense of relief as he returns to the pitch without the burden of constantly worrying about his injury-prone ankle. The midfielder for both Barcelona and the Netherlands national team is eager to make an impact.

“I feel completely good,” De Jong stated one day before the Nations League match against Spain. “It took a long time, and not knowing how long it would take created some doubt. That was sometimes quite difficult to deal with. But now, everything is going well.”

Overcoming Adversity

De Jong suffered a complicated ankle injury during the El Clásico against Real Madrid a year ago. His recovery took longer than anticipated, forcing him to miss the recent European Championship. Upon returning to action, he found himself on the bench more than he would have liked at Barcelona.

However, he is now back in form, both in club and international play. De Jong has reclaimed his starting position at Barcelona and is expected to take the field for the Netherlands in their Nations League clash with Spain on Thursday.

“It’s always nice to play again. I never really stressed about it. The focus was on my ankle healing, and afterward, it was up to me to prove myself. I think I’m in a good phase now, and the team is doing well too,” he added.

A Recent Setback

De Jong faced a minor setback last Sunday due to a physical ailment that forced him to miss the match against Atlético Madrid.

“After lunch, I suddenly had severe nausea and also experienced stomach pain. I think I might have eaten something bad. It seems likely, as I felt much better the next day,” De Jong explained.

Facing Familiar Foes

In their upcoming match against Spain, De Jong will encounter several teammates from Barcelona. One of them is 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal, who has made significant strides at the highest level. “He is very talented. I see him as a natural talent and an exceptional player. It will be essential for us to find a way to counter him as a team,” De Jong noted.

He also expressed enthusiasm for the two-legged clash against the Spanish squad, which includes fellow players Pau Cubarsí, Pedri, Dani Olmo, and Ferran Torres.

“Many people consider Spain the favorite, but I don’t see it that way. Of course, they are very good, but we are ready to make it a great match,” De Jong said confidently.
