Shock Exit: Oud-International Worm’s Career Cut Short by Injury!

Siri Worm Announces Retirement from Professional Football
In a heartfelt announcement, Siri Worm, a former international player with the Dutch national team, has declared her retirement from professional football. The 32-year-old defender had planned to retire at the end of the season while with PSV Eindhoven, but due to a recent injury, she has opted to conclude her career early.
“It hit me hard, but I’ve come to terms with it,” Worm stated in a press release. Despite her retirement announcement, she has committed to continuing her rehabilitation with PSV until the season concludes.
Injury and Career Highlights
Siri Worm sustained her injury on February 4 during a friendly match against the Danish club, Fortuna Hjørring. Just days before, she had participated in her last official game against her former club FC Twente, where she played for eight seasons from 2009 to 2017 and won three league titles.
Worm’s career has been significantly impacted by injuries, notably missing key tournaments. After debuting for the Dutch national team in 2012, she was selected for the UEFA Euro in Sweden the following year. However, subsequent opportunities eluded her due to injury.
In 2015, a severe knee injury kept her from participating in the Women’s World Cup in Canada. Two years later, she was not included in the squad for the UEFA Euro, which saw the Netherlands crowned European champions. Her last match with the national team came in 2019.
Return to the Netherlands and Final Seasons
Worm’s career took her abroad as she played for clubs including Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Eintracht Frankfurt. In 2022, she made her return to the Netherlands, rejoining PSV, where she played 55 matches and contributed to 13 goals. This current season saw her involved in eight official games.
“What I will miss the most is the locker room,” Worm reflected. “Fortunately, I can still enjoy that atmosphere in the coming months as I focus on my recovery with PSV.”
