Until Dawn movie will tell a new story and have new characters

During a presentation at CES 2025 in Las Vegas (via IGN), Ashley Brucks, president of Screen Gems, a production company owned by Sony Pictures, spoke about the film of Until Dawn due out in April in the United States, saying that it will feature some differences with the original material that will still be respected.

According to Brucks, in fact, a new story will be told in the Until Dawn film that will feature completely new characters.

“The key to successfully adapting these games is one: respecting the source material,” Brucks said. “Our close collaboration with PlayStation Productions gives us and our filmmakers the advantage of working directly with the game creators.”

Brucks added that there is no shortage of “careful balance between trying to identify and incorporate what fans love about the game and offering something new and exciting to attract new fans.”

Actor Peter Stromare, who will reprise the role of psychiatrist Dr. Hill in the Until Dawn adaptation, also explained that the film will “honor the spirit of the game.”

“The film will be full of new characters and victims in a new story full of twists and turns, so whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering it for the first time, get ready for Until Dawn like you’ve never seen it before,” he said.

The Until Dawn movie will be released in U.S. theaters on April 25.
