Looks like the Sleeping Dogs movie will finally be made for real

In early January, Chinese actor Donnie Yen revealed in an interview with Polygon that the film of Sleeping Dogs, an action game by United Front Games, announced in 2017 had been canceled after years of silence. However, it seems that the project will eventually become a reality.

Indeed, from a new report from IGN we learn that the Sleeping Dogs movie is once again in the works, this time at the Story Kitchen production company, known for its work on the Sonic the Hedgehog movies and the Tomb Raider animated series for Netflix (also this week it was announced that it will be working on a live-action Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 movie).

Playing the main character Wei Shen would be actor Simu Liu, known for his role as Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Liu is also expected to handle the production of the film.

A possible return of the Sleeping Dogs film had been hinted at by Liu himself in recent days. In response to a fan asking about an adaptation of the game, the actor had said that he was “working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen.”

Later Liu added, “So few film projects get the green light. Liaising with executives who don’t understand the game has been exhausting. Everyone’s overwhelming love for Sleeping Dogs really brought us to life! First a movie, then a sequel for everyone-that was always the dream.” May this be it?
