George R. R. Martin says “there is talk of an Elden Ring movie.”

In an interview at IGN Fan Fest 2025 (via IGN), noted writer George R. R. Martin revealed that he has heard talk of a possible film of Elden Ring.
George R. R. Martin helped create the world and story of FromSoftware’s latest RPG, which included him at the beginning of the game’s credits along with director Hidetaka Miyazaki. Because of his importance in the development of Elden Ring’s lore it comes naturally that Martin is involved in a possible adaptation, and apparently the author knows more than we do.
“I can’t say much, but, well, there is talk of an Elden Ring movie,” Martin told IGN’s microphones. This is not the first time the creator of The Iron Throne has hinted that a film adaptation of Elden Ring is in the works. Miyazaki himself had also said he was open to the idea, but only if it can become a reality with a major partner.
But if an Elden Ring film were ever to happen, what would Martin’s role be? Well, he himself has revealed that he may not be very involved in the project as he is busy writing the book The Winds of Winter, which fans have been eagerly awaiting for several years.
“First of all, it remains to be seen whether that Elden Ring movie will be approved and how I will be involved, I don’t know,” he added. “I’m a few years behind on my last book, and that also limits the things I can do.”
While waiting to see (perhaps) an Elden Ring movie, we remind you that Elden Ring Nightreign, a multiplayer title in the series announced at The Game Awards 2024, will be released in May.
