Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima is heavily involved in the production and supervision of the film

Among the many film projects from video games in the works is the big-screen adaptation of Death Stranding: The film, announced last December, will be handled by Alex Lebovici and none other than Hideo Kojima, but what exactly is the role of the creator of the original game?

In a tweet posted earlier today, the head of Kojima Productions explained that he will be heavily involved in the Death Stranding film, but that he will not be taking on the role of director. “To be clear, I am deeply involved in the production, supervision, plot, style, design and content of the Death Stranding film adaptation, but I will not be directing,” Kojima tweeted.

Who will be the director of the Death Stranding movie is yet to be seen, as well as who will take the shoes of the game’s characters. Last year, shortly after the film adaptation was announced, Kojima said that rather than making a big-budget film, he and Lebovici wanted to take “a more arthouse approach.”

In addition to the Death Stranding film, Kojima is currently involved in the development of Death Stranding 2, a title scheduled for release in 2024 on PS5.

Just to be clear, I am deeply involved in producing, supervising, plotting, look, design and content of the film adaptation of DS, just not in charge of directing.
