The victim had gone hiking with a friend to the ‘Marienbrücke’, a well-known bridge near the castle. There, the two women met a 30-year-old American who persuaded them to follow him to the castle. along a path leading to a lookout point.
After guiding the friends along the path, the man “physically assaulted” the 21-year-old girl.. The girl’s friend tried to help her and the assailant strangled her and pushed her down a slope.
Police suspect that the man might have intentions of sexually abusing the friends. The 21-year-old girl was later pushed, falling. 50 meters below her friend.
Rescue services from Füssen assisted the victims and airlifted the 21-year-old to a hospital, where she died due to the severity of her injuries.. Her friend was able to speak with rescuers when they found them and was also transported to the hospital.
A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Germany said it was aware of the incident. “The U.S. Consulate in Munich is monitoring the situation closely and is in contact with the authorities,” the spokesperson has said.
