Ajax’s technical staff is complete: Hedwiges Maduro will be the new assistant coach at Ajax. The former professional footballer will sign a three-year contract.

Rumors had been circulating for some time that the 38-year-old Almeerder would join his old club, but the deal was not yet finalized. The club from Amsterdam was looking for an assistant with “Ajax DNA” after appointing Maurice Steijn from The Hague as head coach.

After promotion to the premier league, Almere City FC was still busy celebrating when Ajax knocked on the door to pick up Maduro.

Maduro cannot confirm move to Ajax: ‘First enjoy Almere inauguration’

The brand-new premier league club would have preferred to keep the wanted Maduro for a while longer. His contract ran for another year, but against Ajax Almere City could not compete.

“We would have been only too happy to enter the premier league with Hedwiges Maduro as assistant coach. At the same time, we also listened to his story out of respect for Hedwiges and we grant him this step,” general manager John Bes announced.

Ajax director of soccer affairs Sven Mislintat is in any case pleased with Maduro’s arrival: “It is important for us that Hedwiges joins. I am very happy that we have now filled all the trainer positions for the first team.”
