Super Mario Bros. The Movie, work on sequel paused due to writers’ strike

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Chris Pratt spoke about the inevitable sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie., revealing that more news should be coming “soon.”

It is unclear how “soon,” however, since, as Pratt himself explains, the Hollywood industry is currently at a standstill due to the writers’ strike he supports.

“We’re in the middle of this writers’ strike and so everything has been put on pause and suspended for the right reasons,” Pratt said. “I really support the WGA and our screenwriters,” he continued. “When the negotiations are over and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it will be time to start talking about what’s next.”

Reflecting on the success of the film, Pratt said, “We are so grateful for the support we have received. It’s really shocking to me the success of this film. I mean, I expected people to love it as much as I was excited about it, but it’s really multigenerational all over the world. People love it. They love Mario… It’s a really funny, funny, cute, and heartwarming movie and, God, I can’t believe I’m a part of it.”

As we know, the Super Mario Bros. movie was a worldwide success, becoming the highest-grossing movie adaptation of a video game at the box office ever.
