Liverpool has secured its first major acquisition this summer. The English club is acquiring Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion. The 24-year-old midfielder, who became world champion with Argentina in December, signs with Liverpool for four years.

Liverpool will reportedly pay around 40 million euros for the new teammate of Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk.

It is unlikely to be the only summer reinforcement for Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool, which has had a disappointing season. The Reds finished fifth in the Premier League, missing out on a Champions League ticket.

Sixteen-time international Mac Allister impressed in the Argentina squad during the last World Cup in Qatar, but a transfer in the winter period was not yet in the cards.

112 duels for Brighton

Mac Allister was under contract at Brighton since January 2019, but was first rented twice to Argentine clubs. His debut in the Premier League followed over a year later in Brighton’s service. 112 official duels in the Brighton shirt further, he can thus be admired next season in the shirt of Liverpool.

According to Mac Allister, who finished only one place lower than Liverpool with Brighton last season, this makes a dream come true. “It feels great. I can’t wait to get started here. It’s been a great season for me with the World Cup and what we achieved with Brighton &Hove Albion.”
