RB Leipzig has won the DFB-Pokal for the second time. In a final that had few moments of ecstasy, it settled with Eintracht Frankfurt in the second half: 2-0.

Timo Werner had a good chance for Leipzig early on at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, but goalkeeper Kevin Trapp saved attentively. Other than flashes from Randal Kolo Muani (Frankfurt) and Christopher Nkunku (Leipzig), hardly anything else happened before the break.

In the second half, Frankfurt was initially the better team. Mario Götze could have gifted himself a goal on his 31st birthday, but his shot hit the fists of goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

Nkunku makes difference for Leipzig

Leipzig had shown almost nothing yet, but did take the lead in the 70th minute. Nkunku lashed out in the penalty area and saw the ball change direction via the leg of defender Evan N’Dicka in such a way that the Leipzig goalkeeper was defenseless.

After that, Leipzig dominated the game. Five minutes before time, Dominik Szoboszlai – on a pass from Nkunku – decided the final.

Last season, Leipzig won the cup for the first time. Then it was too strong for SC Freiburg in the final.
